Russian power engineers have unveiled innovative methods to identify and prosecute illegal cryptocurrency mining operations in electricity-scarce regions. The North Caucasus branch of Rosseti, the national power provider, claims to have detected dozens of clandestine mining farms in Dagestan using these new techniques.
Dagestan’s villages of Balakhani and Maidanskoye served as testing grounds for the solutions, developed in response to resident complaints about persistent power outages. Power companies suspect crypto mining operations are draining local grids, prompting intensified surveillance efforts.
